The EPSRC-funded Digital Economy Network (DEN) and the Horizon Centre for Doctoral Training are delivering the following three skills training development workshops for doctoral researchers and early career researchers concurrently at the University of Nottingham in Nottingham on Thursday 5 September 2019:

  • An Introduction to the Peer Review Process (10am-3pm)
  • (Digital) Space/Place/Identity within Interdisciplinary Research (9.30am-4.30pm)
  • Mixed Reality Storytelling (10am-3pm)

These workshops are free to attend, and refreshments and a buffet lunch will be provided for attendees.

Brief descriptions of the workshops are provided below, but please click on the relevant workshop title to find out more and to progress through to the eventbrite registration links.

An Introduction to the Peer Review Process: Through mostly interactive exercises, this workshop, led by Dr Max Wilson, Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Nottingham, discusses a range of approaches to Peer Review suitable for different academic research situations (from workshops, to conferences, to peer-reviewed conferences, to journals, and more).

Digital Space/Place/Identity within Interdisciplinary Research: This one-day workshop seeks to investigate the concepts of “space”, “place” and “identity”: How they are being defined, used, contested and reappropriated through digital technology. It will explore how existing technologies can be critiqued and investigate their effects on identity/space/place –and whether they introduce or reproduce uneven power relationships.

Mixed Reality Storytelling: This workshop will look at storytelling and mixed reality technology individually, before exploring how the two can combine. Workshop attendees will have an opportunity to design their own mixed reality storytelling experiences and present them to the other participants.

Delegates will need to bring their own laptops/Macbooks/tablets to use at the workshops.
