Chira was appointed DEN Social Media Advocate on 1 February 2017, and remained in post until 31 October 2017. Chira was the second Social Media Advocate following Dr Chris Carter, who moved on to be an Assistant Professor for the Haydn Green Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the Nottingham University Business School. Chris was in the Advocate role from 1 January 2015 – 31 July 2016.


After completing a degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications from Bournemouth University, Chira joined the advertising industry working at OMD, an Omnicom media agency. Beginning first in their Communications Department, then moving across to their Insight Department, she managed several projects across clients such as Boots, Vodafone, Hasbro, Pepsi Co and Disney.

She then moved to Substance Global, a digital agency that specialises in PR and Marketing films, TV and games. There she worked in the Social team managing over 100+ accounts for brands such as Warner Bros Interactive, 20th Century Fox, Paramount and HBO.

In 2015, Chira commenced an iPhD in Web Science at the University of Southampton.

Chira delivered a practical workshop for PhD students at the DE Summer School 2017 on 6 July at Loughborough University London entitled ‘Using Social Media as a PhD Researcher: How to present your academic self online’.
